pooh pooh to the naysayers who set aside Steig Larsson so easily....his trilogy was one not to be believed.....such construction of a novel kept me glued to his work to the bitter astounding end of book three. his work has veered me onto scandinavian writers which is terrific. so sorry he isn't with us anymore!

Hi, I've just finished the third book and I have to agree with Jan Guillou.
The story is well told and you can't stop reading but they are far from being good. All ends like a hollywood movie. I've read almost everything written by Guillou who tells the same about swedish police but in my opinion in a better and a more professional way than Stieg Larsson. So the question is, why are these books selling so well even outside Sweden?

Slightly stupid question, but where did you find those pics of Salander and Blomqvist? I'm in Canada and there's not much buzz about Larsson here, although I know that his book sales were nuts in Europe! Is there a TV show that's out already? My other question is if you know about his literary influences. I'm trying to create a page about him on infloox.com and have to enter in that info. Any details would be appreciated!

Hi, and thanks! Thanks also for the link to the site for supporting Stieg Larsson's partner Eva Gabrielsson - or rather wife, in all but the legal sense.

I did not know that part of the story! Wow. I guess Jan Guillou and Liza Marklund, who each own approximately one third of Piratförlaget, must be a little annoyed about that. Not that any of them need money, but still. Larsson has been great for Norstedts :)

Seemingly unrelated (but who knows) is of course the fact that Jan Guillou a few months ago told several Swedish and Danish newspapers that the only reason Stieg Larsson's books were so popular, was that Larsson had died.

Excellent article, Peter. Here's one twist in the saga you missed. Stieg first sent the MS of the first book to Pirat Förlag, the press run by Jan Guillou and Liza Marklund. It came back several weeks later UNOPENED! Then he and his partner Eva Gabrielsson took all 3 manuscripts to Norstedts, who did read them and signed him up. The rest is history (though the whole story has not yet appeared in English). So far most of the news is on websites of Swedish newspapers and in blogs. See also the new site started by Norwegian fans to help pay Eva Gabrielsson's legal bills: supporteva.com.
