I just read in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter that Stieg Larsson was the bestselling author in Europe in 2010. And, “Larsson King of Europe 2010,” wrote The Bookseller. Sweden actually had three writers on the top ten list: Stieg Larsson, Camilla Läckberg, and Lars Kepler.
And now Hollywood is gearing up for the remake of the Stieg Larsson movies, with lots of tidbits about actors and the shooting constantly reaching the media! So the timing for Eva Gabrielsson’s long awaited biography of Stieg Larsson could probably not have been much better! As New York Times writes, this will be “The Girl With the Book about the Famous Author” – and actually both very famous and deceased.
Eva Gabrielsson was the life-partner of the late Stieg Larsson, author of the internationally bestselling Millennium Trilogy. It is assumed and to some extent has also been indicated by Gabrielsson that she played a role in the writing of the Millennium books, but the exact role is still quite unclear. So for the millions of Stieg Larsson fans interested in learning more about the author and the making of the books, and perhaps even about possible follow-ups, this will surely be an interesting book.
The biography will be published in the US by Seven Stories Press and is scheduled for publication in June 2011. It is being translated into English by Linda Coverdale. Meanwhile, it will be published in French, Swedish and Norwegian in January 2011, so we will soon know how good it is.
Eva Gabrielsson has been interviewed on Swedish television. Here it is, with English subtitles: Is a good and quite interesting interview. Eva Gabrielsson talks about how she was often afraid that something terrible would happen, that Stieg would be murdered because of his political views and actions. “I always thought that the police would come and tell me that he had been shot or stabbed to death”.
